Shabbat Services

Shabbat is the centre of our synagogue’s life.

Our services are in both English and Hebrew and follow Liberal Judaism’s prayer book, Siddur Lev Chadash whilst also taking inspiration from other places. Services are led by Rabbi Rebecca and skilled lay leaders.

Our services are known for strong music, thanks to our musicians: Franklyn Gellnick (pianist), Dean Staker (guitar, voice and composition) and Natasha Kafka (guitar and voice). Our prayers are known to be refreshing, reflective and restorative.

Friday evening – Kabbalat Shabbat (6.30pm)

‘On the seventh day God rested’ and so we begin our rest by welcoming Shabbat with the lighting of the candles and community prayer.

On the third Friday of the month Shabbat Resouled, our popular and upbeat band, lead with their creative style of music. That evening we also have our Prayground, a quiet play space in the sanctuary where children can relax and listen to the service.

Relaxed Resouled is an inclusive and interactive – shorter service – with Makaton signing. Everyone is welcome and can take part in whatever way is comfortable. Check the calendar for the next one.

Chavurah suppers, where members bring dinner to share, follow the service on the last Friday of every month. Please contact or call 02084464063 to let us know if you’re coming (but we’d love you to join us as a last-minute decision, too!)

Saturday morning – Shacharit (11.00am)

On the first Saturday of each month we have Shabbat B’yachad, our family service, led by Rabbi Rebecca and our children and teachers.

On other weeks you can expect a more traditional service, though children are welcome at all our services.

Café Ivriah, our parents’ discussion space is hold alternately on Saturday and Sunday mornings, with a variety of activities and topics.

Saturday evening – Havdalah

The ceremony that ends Shabbat is celebrated as a communal event on the last Saturday of the month. Check the calendar for the next one.
